Beef Tehari Bangladeshi Recipe | Old Dhaka's Famous Main Course

Beef Tehari is a very famous and delicious main course of Old Dhaka, Bangladesh. This core dish is like the heritage of Bengali cuisine. It has been loved and appreciated for over many decades now. It is extremely rich and alone can steal the show. It requires no sides but could be served with some salad. It is cooked in steps and I have compiled a very detailed step by step recipe video.

List of ingredients:

  • Beef - 1 kg / 2.2 lb
  • Basmati Rice - 750 gm / 4.5 cups  *any fragrant rice could be used
  • Garlic paste - 1.5 tbsp
  • Ginger paste - 1.5 tbsp
  • Mustard paste - 1.5 tsp
  • Nutmeg powder - 0.5 tsp
  • Mace powder - 0.5 tsp
  • Bird's eye chilli whole - 20 pieces
  • Bird's eye chilli paste - 1 tbsp
  • Full fat Yogurt - 0.5 cup
  • Salt - 3 tsp or to taste
  • Tasting salt - 0.5  tsp
  • Chopped onions - 4 cups
  • Onion paste - 3 tbsp
  • Cumin powder - 1 tbsp
  • Paprika - 1 tsp
  • Bay leaves - 4 big pieces
  • Cinnamon Sticks - 4 pieces
  • Cardamom (small) - 5 pieces
  • Black peppercorns whole - 18 to 20 count
  • Cloves - 8 to 10 count
  • Kewra (flavoured) water - 1 tsp
  • Mustard oil - 1/3rd cup
  • Vegetable/Corn oil - 1/3rd cup
  • Ghee - 10 tbsp (8 tbsp = 1/2 cup)
